BE-WILDER: animation experimentation

As Media Artist in Residence at Walter Moberly Elementary School in 2021-22, I worked with over 250 grades 3-7 students and their teachers to make bewildering animations with school-issued iPads — activities included stop-motion and experimental animation, rotoscoping, direct animation on celluloid, and flipbooks.

Inspired by Jack Halberstam’s writing on failure, children’s media and bewilderment, this inquiry project implemented strategies for making-strange and using somatic practices as starting points for media artwork.
