La Commune 2021 Artist in Residence

From March 18th through early June 2021, writer and scholar Roxanne Panchasi hosted a virtual free school focused on the Paris Commune of 1871 in collaboration with UNIT/PITT Society for Art and Critical Awareness. In response to the learning in the free school, 10 emerging artists were commissioned to create a affiches all of which can be found here. Roxanne reflected on the project in 2024 for Age of Revolutions, which can be read here.

During my residency, I worked with Reed Jackson and Division One at Florence Nightingale Elementary School to create a participatory performance set to take place on June 28th 2021. Both the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the beginning of the deadly heat dome that caused school to be cancelled, I wrote and collaged some documentation of this process as an affiche, which can be found at the button below:
